Keen Cover Friday #6

During Keen Cover Friday, we post a book cover that totally attracts and captures our eyes the moment we laid them on that cover and one that might make others swoon over its beauty just as much as we did!

I haven’t posted in a while. I sort of got busy at work last week because of the events, plus I kinda got sick. Anyway, so for this cozy Friday, I’m going to share one of the most purdy covers I’ve seen! Introducing, Jenny Han’s newest novel, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

It’s coming out April of next year, guys! And I loved Jenny Han ever since I read her Summer Trilogy. It was such an awesome book. So, I am looking forward to this book which I will certainly get a copy of. Hihi

1. Isn’t the girl pretty?
2. The room.
3. The handwritten watercolor words/title.
4. How the sun beamed at the girl.
5. Well, just that I find so much peace in that cover.
6. Hmm, seriously I just love everything about the cover.

I really liked the cover ever since I lay my eyes on them. It just reminds me of myself, during summer days. On my bed, reading and writing down stuff. I hope that I’d love this book as much as I did with Jenny Han’s Summer Trilogy. I’m a little bit excited about this and somewhat expecting that there’d be romance! Hihi. And I hope you guys would love it, too! :)

What do you think of this post? And what do you think about this new novel?

Bookish Review: Charade by Nyrae Dawn

Title: Charade (Games, #1)
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Publication Date: 22nd October, 2012
Pages: 213
Format: eBook
Genre: NA Contemporary

Goodreads | Barnes & Noble

Nineteen-year-old Cheyenne tries to portray the perfect life to mask the memories of her past. Walking in on her boyfriend with another woman her freshman year in college threatens that picture of perfection.

Twenty-one-year-old Colt never wanted college and never expected to amount to anything, but when his mom’s dying wish is for him to get his degree, he has no choice but to pretend it’s what he wants too.

Cheyenne needs a fake boyfriend to get back at her ex and Colt needs cash to take care of his mom, so they strike a deal that helps them both. But what if Cheyenne’s past isn’t what she thought? Soon they’re trading one charade for another—losing themselves in each other to forget about their pain. The more they play their game, the more it becomes the only thing they have that feels real.

Both Cheyenne and Colt know life is never easy, but neither of them expect the tragedy that threatens to end their charade and rip them apart forever.

Two people whose paths intertwined for a reason. Two people who thought they could fool everyone wit a game of charade that they agreed to play. Little did they know that they were only fooling themselves.

When I first saw this book on goodreads, I really thought the cover is cute. But what really made me read it was the fact that I was so intrigued after reading the synopsis. Although I haven’t read any of Nyrae Dawn’s books before, I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I do now. I was actually hooked from the very first sentence up to the end. It’s one of those books that you’ll find hard to put down.

“This is a game. Our game. One that I asked for, but with each day it felt more real. More real than anything ever has and I’m not sure how I feel about that.”

I loved Cheyenne from the start. I admire her for how she was able to handle her a-hole boyfriend and how she showed him that it wasn’t hard for her to forget a douche like him. When really, all she wanted to do was hide in her apartment all day just so she wouldn’t bump into him inside the campus. With her panic attacks and the finding her mom, she still managed to put up a strong and brave Chey in front of other people.

Colt, on the other hand, was lovely. People may think of him as a bad boy, but you’ll soon find out why he is such a prick sometimes. I immediately fell in love with him. His inner thoughts made me feel his pain in such a way that I thought it was my own. I love how he is willing to do anything for his mom and how he manages to smile in front of her when it hurts like hell inside to see her slowly withering away.

“I thought this was a game,” I remind him.
“Not anymore and you know it. Everything else in my life is all fucked up. This is the only thing that’s real.”

Nyrae Dawn did an awesome job in this book. Her writing style was perfect which catches the readers from the start. I liked how Chey and Colt were exchanging charades for another one moment and then somewhere in between exchanging them, they find light in each other’s arms; they found themselves slowly falling in love and what they are for the other is no longer a charade.

“This isn’t a fucking game anymore. No charades here. I don’t know exactly what to call it, but whatever it is, it’s ours. I’m going to latch onto it. And never let go.”

I was surprised with how I suddenly loved this book. I cried buckets while reading this. I recommend this to all the NA readers out there.

Bookish Challenge: Days 11-16

I’ve decided to put all the delayed days in one post but I left out Day 17 because I though it’s such a great topic and I wanted it to be on a solo-post. :)

Day 11: A Book I Hate

For this one, I do not actually hate it. But it’s really one of the few I didn’t finished reading.

I don’t know? Maybe the pacing is too slow or I was just not interested. I mean, at the middle chapters, I was intrigued of what happened to Harriet. But as the story goes on, I just got bored and put it down. Anyway, I’m going to re-read this soon. Who knows? I might change my views about it or I might surprisingly love it.

Day 12: A Book I Love and Hate at the Same Time

It’ll probably be Fifty Shades of Grey. Hah!

I just love the story, but I hate how Christian was tortured and was treated that way as child. And I hate how he usually settles for the dominant-submissive relationship before he met Anastasia. And I should keep my mouth shut because this is becoming a spoiler post. =))

Day 13: My Favourite Author

I HAVE A LONG LIST. But I’ll just cut it down to the top 3.

  • Nicholas Sparks
    – I mentioned that I loved reading him as a child and how weird that sounds, but there’s something to the way Nicholas Sparks write that catches me off guard. When I was a kid, I don’t really like reading about adults. I mean, working people and stuff. Because what do I know about those? But Nicholas Sparks’ novels have always been an exception for me. Plus, I don’t get to read a lot of books before. Until I turned high school and was re-introduced to books that I’ve been reminded of how much I love to read.
  • John Green
    – I’ve read all of John Green’s books last December-January except for Papertowns and Will Grayson, Will Grayson. It was a gift by le boyfie for Christmas. And I was… Ahhhh!! John Green’s totally one of my favourite authors! Hah. I loved all his books, although, of course the ones that stood out was TFiOS and LFA. I loved them, I cried buckets. So . Much. Feels.
  • Cassandra Clare
    – Of course, since I’ve read the first book of TMI, I loved Cassandra Clare already. I was so glad my friend told me how great the book is and let me borrow it. And just like that.. I fell in love with Cassie’s writing style. I have yet to read TID.

Day 14: Book Turned Movie and Completely Desecrated

For me it’ll probably The Perks of Being A Wallflower’s movie.

I don’t know if it’s just here or what. But it was completely… cut short. I mean, there are so many events in the book that wasn’t mentioned in the movie. It just saddened me.

Day 15: Favourite Male Character

Male? Male?! I have a lot. Ahhh!! I’m going to list them down and you guys figure out yourselves why I love them so much.

  • Harry Potter, Harry Potter Series, J.K. Rowling
  • Jace Wayland/Lightwood/Herondale, The Mortal Instruments Series, Cassandra Clare
  • Adam Wilde, If I Stay by Gayle Forman
  • Tobias Eaton a.k.a. “Four”, Divergent Series by Veronica Roth
  • Colton, Charade by Nyrae Dawn
  • Patch Cipriano, Hush, Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick

Day 16: Favourite Female Character

While I love male characters, there’s also a list of female characters that I like. But I’m going to name the three that stands out.

  • Hermoine Granger, Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
  • Clarissa Fray/Morgenstern a.k.a. “Clary”, The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare
  • Beatrice Prior a.k.a. “Tris”, Divergent Series by Veronica Roth

Day 10: A Book That Reminds Me of Home

It’ll probably be A Walk To Remember since Nicholas Sparks has been my companion as a child.

I know it sounds weird, I mean, a child reading Nicholas Sparks? But I do. And I loved him, he’s actually my favorite-st author ever. He’s writing style is just so easy to fall in love with. So for everyone who haven’t read him yet, I suggest you to! Any book of NS is worth it!

Top Ten Tuesday #4

Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. An idea for a “Top Ten” list relating to bookish things is posted every week on her blog.  For more information about the meme, click here.

It’s that time of the week again! So for this week’s TTT post are the top ten books on my TBR list.

1. Every Day (Every Day, #1) by David Levithan
I’ve been meaning to read this book but I figured that I should finish reading my series books first so I’d enjoy reading this. Omg, I was so eager to get a copy of this book because I’ve heard so many good things about it. Plus, I like its concept.

2. Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth
This is the second book of the series and I am so excited on reading it and getting to know what happens next to Tris and Four’s journey. I absolutely loved Divergent and I hope this books turns out just as great.

3. Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi
I am so, so, so excited to read this book. I’ve read a lot of reviews about it saying how awesome the book is. Plus, I love the cover. Teehe.

4. My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares
As soon as I saw the title on goodreads, I was already intrigued. And after reading the synopsis, I figured I should give it a try. The concept is great and I hope it doesn’t let me down.

5. Facade (Games, #2) by Nyrae Dawn
After reading the first book, I had a hangover. I was so inlove with Colt. I was just hooked from the first sentence until the last! And this second book, I am really really excited to know Adrian’s story!!

6. Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick
It’s been a year since I read the first book and it was just until recently that I was able to get a copy of this one. I am still thinking if I should re-read the first one since it has been a long time ago. But I still remember the way I got hooked while reading Hush, Hush. I will surely love this second book, nevertheless.

7. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
This book was recommended by a friend. She told me how awesome and beautifully written the novel was and I swear, the look on her face when she was trying not to spoil me was priceless. Haha. I’ve had an ebook for a long time and actually started reading the first few chapters. But there’s really something inside me that says to wait for the book before reading it. And I did! And now that I have a physical copy, I cannot wait to finish reading it!!!

8. Beastly by Alex Flinn
I loved the concept ever since I read the synopsis. And I didn’t have the chance to get a copy until recently. During the crazy NBS sale. Finally, I will be able to read it soon. It’s been on my to-read list on goodreads for a long time already.

9. The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen
I know, I know. I’ve bought the book a month ago. But I don’t know.. I haven’t picked it up yet. I think I’m still bracing myself for another Sarah Dessen book.

10. The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1) by Jessica Sorensen
This was recommended by one of my bosses in the office. I love how she loves reading just as much as I do. And we usually sit in her room, talking about so many books she and I have read and all the books we love in common. I’m sure I’m going to love this!

What do you think of my TBR list guys? And have you posted your TTT for today already? I’m going to check blogs later, I’d love to read your list!
